Aluminum Welding in Midland, TX
Aluminum is its own trade — it welds nothing like steel, and it punishes welders who treat it that way. Our mobile aluminum welders bring TIG and spool-gun MIG to your location in Midland, Odessa, and the Permian Basin for repairs and fabrication that hold up and look right.
Why aluminum needs a specialist
Ask any welder: aluminum is the metal that separates the guys who own a welder from the guys who can actually weld. It conducts heat away from the joint six times faster than steel, it melts with almost no color change to warn you, and the oxide layer on its surface melts at three times the temperature of the metal underneath. Get any of that wrong and you get a weld that's porous, cracked, or just sitting on top of the metal pretending to be a joint.
That's why a general steel shop is a gamble for aluminum work. Our aluminum work is done by welders who run aluminum regularly — with the right filler wire for the alloy, proper cleaning and prep (stainless brush, acetone, no shortcuts), and the process matched to the job: TIG for thin material and cosmetic work, spool-gun MIG for thicker structural repairs and production speed.
And because we're mobile, your cracked trailer doesn't need a tow to a shop. We come to your yard, your shop, or your driveway and weld it where it sits.
Aluminum work we do
- Trailer repairs — cracked aluminum trailer frames, fenders, ramps, gates, and hinges. The most common aluminum call we get in West Texas.
- Truck beds and boxes — cracked bed floors, toolbox mounts, headache rack repairs, and service-body aluminum work.
- Fuel and water tanks — crack repairs on aluminum tanks, mounting bracket fixes, and baffle repairs (tanks must be empty and purged — we'll confirm before we roll).
- Boat and pontoon repair — hull cracks, transom repairs, pontoon tube fixes, and trailer bunks for the lake crowd.
- ATV and UTV parts — cracked A-arms, racks, bumpers, and skid plates.
- Diamond plate and trim — toolbox lids, step repairs, and decorative aluminum fabrication.
- Handrails and fencing — aluminum railing repairs and new fabrication for commercial and residential sites.
- Oilfield aluminum — catwalk grating frames, gauge hatches, light-duty brackets, and equipment housings on lease sites.
- Custom fabrication — brackets, mounts, enclosures, and one-off parts built to your measurements.
- Intercooler and radiator tanks — crack repairs on aluminum end tanks for trucks and equipment (pressure testing available on request).
- Sign frames and canopies — aluminum sign structure repairs and light canopy fabrication.
TIG vs. MIG on aluminum — and alloys that matter
We run two processes on aluminum, and the job picks the process:
- TIG (GTAW) — for thin material, cosmetic work, and precision repairs. TIG gives the cleanest, most controlled aluminum welds — the stacked-dimes look that also happens to be the strongest joint on thin sections.
- Spool-gun MIG (GMAW) — for thicker material, longer runs, and structural repairs where speed matters. A spool gun feeds soft aluminum wire without the bird-nesting that ruins a standard MIG setup.
Alloy matters too. Most of what we see is 6061 and 6063 (structural shapes, trailer frames) and 5052 (sheet, tanks, marine work) — we match filler to the base metal (4043 or 5356) rather than grabbing whatever wire is loaded. Cast aluminum — transmission cases, intake manifolds, some wheels — is repairable but tricky; we'll give you an honest assessment before we strike an arc, and sometimes the honest answer is that replacement beats repair.
One hard rule: we don't weld aluminum that's been contaminated with oil or grease without proper cleaning first, and we don't weld on fuel tanks that haven't been emptied and purged. Aluminum and shortcuts don't mix.
How it works
1. Call or send photos
Aluminum repairs price much better from photos. Text us a picture of the crack or break and tell us the alloy if you know it.
2. We come to you
We load the TIG rig or spool gun (or both) and come to your Midland or Odessa location — yard, shop, or driveway.
3. Prep and quote
We clean and assess the joint, confirm the alloy and filler, and give you the price before welding starts.
4. Weld and finish
Clean welds, ground smooth where it matters, and your part back in service.
Aluminum work is typically priced per job rather than hourly — a cracked trailer fender is a fixed-price repair, and you'll know the number up front. Larger fabrication is quoted from drawings or measurements. For urgent aluminum breakdowns, our 24/7 emergency service covers aluminum too.
